Post 556, Frewsburg, N.Y.
Founded on Oct. 17, 1919, Samuel L. Derby American Legion Post 556 met first in private homes, rented rooms, the Carroll town hall and even a bowling alley. But in 1948, members began preparations to build their first post home after Harry Kline donated a one-acre lot. Membership increased from about 30 to 575 some years after it was completed.
